1. Introduction
Formerly known as the Department of Commercial Law under the Faculty of Law, which has been operating for more than 20 years, the Department of Economic Law was officially recognized according to Resolution No. 108/NQ-HDT of the Board of Trustees - Can Tho University on July 19, 2023. Department of Economic Law is responsible for providing university-level education in Economic Law (LLB) with professional knowledge, strong skills, responsibility and professional ethics. In addition, the Department is in charge of managing the master-level education in Economic Law (LLM) with both the research-oriented and application-oriented programs so as to flexibly respond to social needs and the region’s development and integration.
Department of Economic Law consists of 23 full-time lecturers, including 03 doctors, 06 PhD candiates and 14 masters in laws. The Legal Practice Center is under the Department’s management which has the function of managing clinical legal education courses and facililating students’ internship in companies, law firms and public organizations.

3. Training
3.1. Undergraduate education
To become a student majoring in Economic Law at the Faculty of Law - Can Tho University, candidates will submit their application in accordance with the admission procedures regulated by the Ministry of Education and Training. In addition to general knowledge for all fields of law, students studying Economic Law will be equipped with in-depth courses in domestic and international economic laws.
LLB in Economic Law has the ability to work on the following job positions
- Specialist in economic law at business corporations, credit institutions, law firms/offices/branches, legal authorities, juridical authorities, and other public organizations;
- Secretary or human resources officer in economic organizations;
- Legal researcher;
- Legal consultant;
- Mediator, Arbitrator, Legal Assistant;
- Judicial titles (after having competent certificates).

3.2. Graduate education
The Department is in charge of managing the LLM program in economic law (since 2011) with two distinct training orientations being operated: research and application. Graduate students will study in-depth in specialized areas of Economic Law such as land laws in business, property ownership in business, business contracts, banking law, securities law and stock markets, international trade law, international investment law... to be able to meet the growing demand of the society. Up until now, the LLM program has provided over 400 masters of economic law with highly professional distiction for the region’s workforce.
4. Scientific Research and transfer activities
Scientific research is a significant professional function of the Department of Economic Law. The Department’s lecturers have published widely in the field of economic law such as corporate governance, economics and law, trade law, finance law, environmental law, international trade and business law... In recent years, the Department has begun to have a number of publications in international journals under SCOPUS/WoS indexes, notably Manchester Journal of International Economic Law, Russian Law Journal, Indonesian Law Journal, Lex Portus...
Through the operation of the Law Practice Center, the Department’s main transfer activity is to provide free legal advice to cases being submitted to the Center. This activity is attached to the clinical legal education course (CLE) – a prerequisite subject in the undergraduate program which is held significantly by the students so as to gain pratical skills and knowledge based up on the advisory work.
